The capital is La Paz, located in the southern part of the peninsula. The relief is characterized by coastal plains, a mountainous California system and two deserts: the Central Desert and the Vizcaín Desert. The highest peak is the Sierra de la Laguna with an altitude of 2,080 meters. The climate is mostly desert. The country is poor in watercourses. The largest river is San Ignacio. The most important is the food industry. There are many fish in the coastal waters. Baja California Sur is known for its high quality crops. There are grown woodpeckers, figs, papaws, mangoes, asparagus, peppers, tomatoes and melons.
