Wildlife of Australia - Steve

Australia's fauna consists of a huge number of animals. About 83 % of mammals, 89 % of reptiles, 90 % of fish and insects and 93 % of the continent's amphibians are endemic to Australia. This high number of endemic species can be attributed to the continent's long geographical isolation, tectonic stability and the effects of an unusual climate change model on soil and flora. Australia has passed extensive federal and state regulations to focus on the conservation of its fauna and has established a number of protected areas. Steve
