Brazil (Rio de Janeiro from the air) - Steve

With 6.7 million inhabitants, Rio de Janeiro is the second most populous city in Brazil. Located on the Atlantic coast, it was founded by the Portuguese in 1565. It is the most visited city in South America. It is visited by more than 2.8 million tourists annually. Rio is known for carnivals, beautiful beaches and the huge statue of Christ the Redeemer on Corcovado Hill. It is also the main cultural center of Brazil. Its architecture includes buildings from the 16th to 19th centuries that blend in with world-famous 20th century designs. In the historic center there is the traditional Lapa district, a bohemian area that is enjoyed by locals and tourists alike.
